Lula uses environmentally friendly materials in each design, like natural seeds and repurposed materials. The designs are made based on what the community has around them. By making eco-friendly designs, Lula tries to keep environmental and human safety always in mind.
Every Lula Mena design is perfectly handmade by one of the 9 Salvadoran communities that work with her. Among these are: communities of women, artisans and communities at high social risk.
By designing some of her product lines using traditional techniques, Lula tries to contribute to the preservation of these amazing techniques and at the same time, provide steady jobs to high risk communities in rural areas of El Salvador.
Lula seeks to improve the quality of life of the communities by offering sustainable jobs opportunities within a framework of fair trade. With this, she ensures that all the people that work in her project have an optimal working conditions without any kind of labor exploitation and receive fair remuneration, even 3 time more what Salvadoran people earn in the countryside.
Lula focus her work on empower women in at risk rural communities in El Salvador by providing them with a steady job.
As a result, this women have become the main providers in their home, giving them the ability to send their kids to school. These kids are the first generation in their families to get a high school education instead to go with their father to work at agriculture. With all of this, important social changes are being made.
A Través de la innovación en el diseño Lula cree que se puede lograr la preservación de las técnicas tradicionales artesanales ofreciendo productos que encajen en las demandas del mercado contemporáneo.
